American taxpayers will not pay the current appeal of the defamation of $ 83 million by President Donald Trump, a Federal Court of Appeals determined on Wednesday.
A panel of judges in the Second Court of Appeals of the United States Circuit on Wednesday denied Trump’s request that the lawyers of the Department of Justice argue in their appeal of the case of defamation of the columnist E. Jean Carroll against Trump.
Last year, a jury in New York ordered Trump to pay the former Elle magazine $ 83.3 million in damages to defame in 2019 when he denied his accusation that he sexually assaulted her in the locker room of a store by departments of Bergdorf Goodman in the mid -1990s. Trump has denied all the accusations.
The lawyers of the Department of Justice had argued that since part of Trump’s alleged conduct fell within the reach of his role as president, the Department of Justice should be able to defend the President in the Court.

“Substitution is required because once the attorney general certifies that a defendant is acting within the scope of his office or employment, the United States is the defendant of the party to less and until a court governs the opposite,” they argued.
ABC News has communicated with Trump’s legal team to comment.
Oral arguments in the appeal of the Trump case are scheduled for June 24.
Last week, the second circuit denied Trump’s request to rehearse his challenge to a civil sentence of $ 5 million, another jury granted Carroll in 2023.
