Three people are dead, and another is injured after falling from a mountain in an escalation accident that involved an alleged failed anchor while rapting, police said.
The Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office, together with Okanogan County Search and Rescue volunteers, received a call at approximately 11:30 am on Sunday about an escalation accident in the North Early Winters area outside the state route 20, approximately 16 miles west of Mazama, Washington, according to a statement from the office of the Sheriff’s office of the Sheriff of the Sheriff of the County of Okanogan.
“A Four Renton Escalator party, WA, participated in a fall while descending a steep,” said the police. “Three individuals were confirmed dead at the accident site. The fourth member of the party for self -expended and contacted the police.”
Snohomish County helicopter rescue team helped take out the deceased members of the technical and mountainous land party, “according to the authorities.

“The alleged cause of the accident is an anchor failure during rappel, with more research even ongoing,” authorities said. “The Okanogan County Sheriff’s office wishes to thank SAR and Snohomish County for helping in this tragic incident. Our thoughts are with family members and friends of those involved.”
The climbers involved in the incident have not yet been publicly identified, but it was confirmed that they were 36, 47 and 63 years. Research on their deaths is currently in progress.
